Chemotherapy Comfort Cap Pattern

Materials: 1 ball CHINCHILLA yarn (by Berroco)

Needles: size 9 16” circular AND size 9 double points

To Begin:

Using your circular 16”  US 9 needle, cast on 54 sts. Join your knitting being careful not to twist your cast on edge. *Knit 1 row, purl 1 row* repeat directions between *s 3 times. (This makes the “brim” of the hat.)

On the 7th row: *Knit 8, increase 1 stitch*. Repeat from * around. There will now be 60 sts on your needle. Place a marker on the needle to indicate the beginning of the row, and knit every round until your hat measures approximately 8” from the beginning.

Begin decrease rounds. (Remember to change to double pointed needles when you feel you are “pulling” the stitches around your circular needle.)

1st dec round: *Knit 2 together, K4* Repeat from * around.

  Knit 1 round. (50 sts)

2nd dec round: *Knit 2 together, K3* Repeat from * around.

  Knit 1 round. (40 sts)

3rd dec round: *Knit 2 together, K2* Repeat from * around.

  Knit 1 round. (30 sts)

4th dec round: *Knit 2 together, K1* Repeat from * around.

5th dec round: *Knit 2 together around.

6th dec round: *Knit 2 together around.

Cut yarn, leaving a 9” tail and thread through remaining stitches, as you take those stitches off your needle(s). Gently pull stitches together. Tie a small knot and weave yarn end through underside stitches. (Don’t forget to also weave in your cast on tail.) If you choose, include a special message in the note below, cut it off, and attach it with a safety pin to your hat!
