Corpsdisc
Corps of Discovery Hat – 100% wool
-- Designed by Jean Lampe
This design was inspired by the simple fatigue caps
thought to be worn by the explorers of the Lewis and Clark Expedition
(1804 – 1806). Similar to those favored by European armies at the
time, the style was formally adopted by the US Army by 1812. The basic
design was perhaps the inspiration for the modern day “overseas cap”
worn by current US forces. A quick and easy hat to make, in a style as
popular today as it was in the early 19th century.
Guage: 20 sts = 4” (10cm) using US size 8 (5mm)
needles. $18US

Thrumits
Thrum Mittens – 100% wool
Thrum knitting originated long ago in many European
countries, where peasants stuffed raw wool into their knitting to add
warmth to socks, mittens, etc. Settlers who later came to North America
brought this technique with them. Skiiers, hikers, and fishermen have
long enjoyed the extra warmth of thrums. These mittens are created by
knitting roving into the inside of the mitten. With use, these fleece
“thrums” inside the mittens felt into a thick lining, so cozy, even
when wet.
Guage: 20sts = 4” (10cm) using US size 7 (4.5mm)
double-pointed needles. $18US

Impgathering
Imperial Gathering Bag – 100% wool – Designed
by Jean Lampe
The design for this all purpose bag was inspired by
the gathering bags and baskets used by Indian tribes in centuries past.
While those bags were made of hikes, reeds, or other basketry materials,
our interpretation uses Oregon’s finest Columbia wool, knit on extra
large needles, and then felted to provide strength and stability.
